Thermal expansion vessels

There are different types of thermal expansion vessels, it is important to confirm suitability before installation, for example constructed from appropriate materials and correctly sized.

Where a thermal expansion vessel is used, it is important to address the risk of water stagnation and any problems resulting from particulate accumulation.  It is recommended expansion vessels:

• are bottom fed and upright

• sized and designed to ensure adequate turnover

• are connected using the minimum length of continuously rising pipework

• are regularly maintained and replaced in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and other relevant legislation
