Regulation 4(1)(a) guidance

The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999, the Water Supply (Water Fittings) (Scotland) Byelaws 2014 and the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2009 impose a legal duty not to install water fittings unless they satisfy the requirements specified in Regulation/Byelaw 4. That is to say are of an appropriate quality and standard; suitable for the circumstances in which they are used; and compliant with any applicable requirements specified in Schedule 2.

Water undertakers have the statutory duty to enforce the Regulations/Byelaws. To facilitate compliance water undertakers have developed guidance which:

  • describes the acceptance principles adopted by water undertakers when enforcing the requirements of Regulation/Byelaw 4(1)(a).
  • identifies the information water undertakers may consider as evidence of compliance with those aspects of the regulations relating to the quality and standard of water fittings; that is to say Regulation/Byelaw 4(1)(a).
